Problem: In high-speed operations, a CD or DVD may develop read/write errors as the result of an imbalance caused by variations in the thickness of the protective lacquer coating.
Application: Thickness measurement and control of protective coating applied to optical storage discs.
Solution: An OptIcons® optical thickness control system was installed to measure and control coating thickness of the lacquer and adhesive coatings and to refine the deposition rate of the applied lacquer.
Result: Enabled the customer to improve both its process and product quality by providing a film thickness profile that enabled them to refine the deposition rate of the applied lacquer.
